College Mental Health

gorgeousnycsun1.jpgHaving worked in college/university settings, I know that transitioning to college or beginning a new academic endeavor can open up a host of life stage and identity questions for many people. Issues of identity, belonging and family of origin concerns often begin to come to the fore when one finds themselves in a new environment.

I am particularly passionate about graduate student mental health and am aware of the unique stressors often faced by doctoral students, post-docs and instructors, as well as the factors that make it more challenging to reach out for support. I am connected with several colleges and universities in the area.

Examples of specific issues include:

  • Rebuilding a sense of inner cohesion and self-worth following traumatogenic experiences
  • Navigating relationships with family of origin
  • Developing a positive relationship to one’s various identities
  • Working through deeper dynamics that drive self-criticism and perfectionism
